the other side of the folds

The other side of day / page 40 had folds already in place from which to make structure.

These created rectangles in which to hold doodles.

It was another page that spilled into its neighbour, repeated shapes formed along the far edge along with inky grass-green spillage and over spray.

Coming together as a whole, like this.

Another Monday Thing

This Monday’s thing was folding.I like the way that colors puddle and travel along the folds.

(I say that like every Monday has a special ‘thing’. It doesn’t. I am fond of Mondays though.)

It’s popular to have a strong dislike for Mondays. They signify the end of the weekend (which we are supposed to enjoy) and the start of the working week (which we are not)

But I like Mondays. I guess cos I don’t bear a huge grudge against working. I like the feel of ‘starting over’ that Monday’s have.

But it would surely be a dull world if we all felt the same way bout stuff 😉

Context is everything

Edit: – I had meant to post this post before the previous post, not after it. D’oh! I think typing the final sentence triggered unconcious mis-postings!

last sunday I arrived home after a weekend away. Spangled from another 6 hour car journey as a passenger. Brain troubled and ringing from uncomfortable emotions. Looking back at the page from Sunday I can see this reflected.

I’m someone who needs to spend a proportion of my time alone each day, and after 3 days of perpetual company I feel … well, odd. Out of place with myself. To me, that’s how this page looks amongst the rest of the book.

(Part of me wanted to leave out this page and skip straight on to Monday. But life doesn’t work that way, and neither does my project 😉 )

12 in 12 to August (ish)

The 12 colors in 12 months project is ticking along in the background… I add little bits and things when I have oddments of the month’s color to hand. So it builds up.

To re-cap here’s where we left off in June, through to the first layers of August

uncontaminated with thought

Sunday was a splattery day

As I paint and create I usually listen to the radio.

Sometimes a word or phrase leaks out of the radio through me onto the page.

This often gets covered up in layers of color and stuff

But the phrase ‘uncontaminated with thought’ struck me as poignant to this project

So each time it began to drown in ink and paper I kept it afloat above the layers

Happy endings

Ingredients:

  • Paper. I can recommend a HP940C printer manual, but guess anything made out of paper would do just as well 😉
  • Procion dye. Super vivid colors. I used Magenta and Yellow.
  • Brusho. (Or any ink). I chose Brusho for it’s intense colors
  • Spray inks – like dylusions or Ranger color wash. Or any ink in a spray bottle
  • Water – spray bottle or brushed on to merge colors
  • About a week for inter-page drying and adding ink/dye to the uncolored bits. Building up the colors in stages prevents murky colors
  • Sunshine and a washing line for quicker drying (optional)
  • Suspended expectations. This project steers itself!

Here are some of the results…….

spare change?

Another day, another doodle. Boiled down to its rawest essence, that is my life.

Paper shapes, lurid hues, tiny detail. Different mix of familiar ingredients.

The common threads tying together the rickety vessel in which I navigate my days.

The only certainty is uncertainty.

All things must change.
