re-inkification

Remember the thing with the wet scrumpled tissue paper? And the thing with the printer manual?

So I guess you know where we’re going from here!

A page of plenty

Looking back and photographing yesterday’s page I can see quite how involved it was!

A crucial ingredient in the making of this page is insomnia. Extra long evenings are the best time for fiddly cutting, hole punching and sticking!

Being made up of so many papery layers the surface was pretty cushiony in places. This lends itself perfectly for biro doodling on. Some of this doodling was done with a biro that ran out ages ago, but didn’t get thrown out. The little circular indentations are made by the end of the lid.

Everything has a use in art!

Fragmented Binary

I’ve been playing over ideas of barcodes. Visually, I love their zebra-patterning. Here I’m toying with the aesthetic nonsense they produce when ‘broken’. The warm analogue fuzziness contrasted by the unforgivingly On/Off-ness of a digital world. The fragments of the binary decay merge into the familar, natural.

Ingredients:

White Gesso
Assorted found barcodes
Drawing Ink
White watercolor
Palette Dregs
Coffee

12 in 12 update

Unbelievably the first 1/2 of the year is almost through! As is the 12 in 12 book.

It’s a while since last update, so here’s the tail end of May’s (Blue/Green) pages:

Which nicely lead into June’s (Green) pages:

a re-work in progress

This time last year I was just finishing a year’s foundation course in art and design.

For the end of year show I made a textile sculpture, but the design wandered off a long way from my original idea.

Although i liked the elements of it, I wasn’t happy with the overall look.

These are bits of a re-made version. It will be a wall-hung sculpture in 5 parts. 3 are nearly complete, the other 2 are nearly started.
I’ll post some more as it moves on.

May in progress

There’s a special place in my heart for those indeterminant colors that fall into ‘not quite green’ and ‘not quite blue’. Aqua-tealy-turquoise, if such a beast exists, is the color of May in my 12 in 12 project

We’re only mid way through, but here’s how May is looking so far!

Monday morning theme: Where to begin ?!

I know I’ll need to get the otherside of another cup of coffee before things start making sense today, what’s what and where to go isn’t making much sense yet!

I’ve built up a few days worth of photos to share with you, even cropped them down and renamed them, but in so doing I realised I haven’t got a good grip on the production/posting here ratio! Bear with me, there could be an onslaught coming soon as I catch up with myself!!

Meanwhile, I hate to post a post entirely unillustrated, so here’s a little something else I’ve been working on but not shared before….
