wobbling, blurry…

It’s all metaphors, right?

As I look at what I do I try to pick out clues as to what I mean and feel and understand.

Already in week two of this selflove365 day project (and LOVING it, btw).

The pictures are fuzzy. They mirror the way I’m fumbling my way into the new year and this new project.

I’m finding my feet.

How do I interpret Self Love?

I’m defining it to myself: until recently I wasn’t aware of it even being a thing in my world. It’s new and a little confusing, I’m taking it on as a project: here in this book, here in my life.

So far, this is what it looks like….

day 1

Starting out with a literal expression of the theme. First thoughts… It turns out 1″ square is both larger and smaller than I expected it to be. I can squish more into the space than expected, also it’s also more squinty to look at and to photograph than I expected.

day 2

I went to see Star Wars this day. It was fab. (Apropos to nothing at all.)

day 3

What’s this? – like a tunnel into the future? IDK. I’m still consumed in confusion from the holidays. It’s still a blur. It’s been a Sunday for a very long time now.

day 4

This was the day I would have gone back to work if I hadn’t spent it flat out on the sofa, back home, recombobulating. I was watching a lot of YouTube. A lot of Kyle Cease. He’s reminding me to re-establish a daily meditation practice. I’m reading Gretchen Rubin’s Happiness Project. She’s reminding me the same.

In terms of the daily practice, I’m beginning to see how the squares can join up to become a bigger picture. I’m beginning to get a grip on things again. Thank fuck for that.

day5

Finally got into the year. Five days in… I’ve done than that worse before 😉

day 6

Last year’s book seemed to be full of eyes. (My word for the year was FOCUS, it that kept coming out.) Also my art often has eyes in. So here’s an image who is looking back at us.

day 7

Today I began another year long project. I’m feeling more comfortable with commitment than any time before in my life. (Strewth – I’m not becoming like an actual adult am I?) (NO)

***************************

I hope the first week of the year has been gentle to you, dear friends. I look forward to reading your plans and adventures X

The Spirit of Fizzing Zing

I don’t think any of us are surprised to find, that after a monochrome day there was a pent up explosion of color just ready to burst out of my head onto the page!

Dripped ink puddles on the page

But before the top layer of writing /doodles, these puddles need *something*

They need some …. they need to fizz … to explode

There’s a spirit in wet ink that just has to be coaxed out

Enlivening, twisting, meandering. These lines come by dragging threads through the puddles

a day in a page, part last.

The disparate parts of today’s page are beginning to merge and sit comforatbly in each other’s company.

The only things we need now are the doodles

Light and Dark – Black and White – We Need To Doodle!!

…………………….and now to bed! G’night all X

a day in a page, part 3b

Sorry folks, unkind to leave you dangling.

Dangling?

Yes! Here – on the brink of painted catastrophe!

….daubing and splashing… still no idea where this is going now…. it’s just so busy, so freeform jazz, so focus-less.

Enough! cries IK. I need new and I need different! I need solid edges and flat color! I need Spots!

If only the page weren’t so darned soaking wet…..

…aided by dabbing with a scrap of dyed paper drying time elapses…. (time to type to you) …we wait

still not what you’d call dry, but enough to stick stickers, and a bit more paint…

Time for the papery things we made earlier. They want some more blending in… but that’ll be after some more drying time. Til then…. 😉

a day in a page, part 3

Here’s kinda where we left off earlier, the coffee has soaked in and the general consistency of the page is still damp and squodgy.

Time for paint! Inner Kid is impatient with all this waiting, drying, waiting, so we press on:

Paint and drippy ink. And more purple again!

More splatter! More messy!

More!!!

In a bid to tame the splattering we meditate a moment on the yellow ink and coffee-ness of tomorrow’s page. I love this a lot. Even if nothing else comes of this weekend, the ink + coffee thing is going to be replayed!

But it doesn’t do the trick, the splattering amps up…

…………………..can this page be saved??? It’s looking kinda out of control to me……………..

a day in a page, part 2

With a good thick layer of textures heaped onto the page, we really wanted it to look … well… less of a shambles

and splattering, squirting, dripping and flicking color at it seemed the most fun way to proceed.

Much love for the infinite ways that different materials soak, absorb, repel, or seem indifferent towards the colors thrown at them…

merging and reacting…separating and absorbing.

I can suddenly see a composition of sorts, a way forward, a ‘design’ in mind…
But Inner Kid gets twitchy:
Too much the orangey yellow sameness. I need purple! Purple and scissors and curly edges. And I need them now!

More! More curly edges!
Yuh. So looks like we’re headed in a new direction again…. cool….
Mutant Space Geckos!

……………………..to be continued! …………………….. 😉

Context is everything

Edit: – I had meant to post this post before the previous post, not after it. D’oh! I think typing the final sentence triggered unconcious mis-postings!

last sunday I arrived home after a weekend away. Spangled from another 6 hour car journey as a passenger. Brain troubled and ringing from uncomfortable emotions. Looking back at the page from Sunday I can see this reflected.

I’m someone who needs to spend a proportion of my time alone each day, and after 3 days of perpetual company I feel … well, odd. Out of place with myself. To me, that’s how this page looks amongst the rest of the book.

(Part of me wanted to leave out this page and skip straight on to Monday. But life doesn’t work that way, and neither does my project 😉 )
