I’ve thought about a black and white page for a while.
I’ve even tried.
But resisting any color at all was harder than I cared to admit!
Anyway, prompted by John Clinock of Art Rat Cafe I determined to give it another go. Armed just with black and white gesso, black and white Dr PH Martens’ Bombay Inks, black and white gel pens, this is what happened!
I’d do it again – thanks for the nudge, John!
This is a great lesson: black and white can be every bit as interesting and complex as color. I guess that’s something I knew about photographs, but had not thought to apply to other media. Thanks for sharing. Lovely as always.

and as always, thanks! It’s funny, until a few years ago almost all my art was simple B&W… it’s inspired me to re-explore 🙂

Wow! It feels as though I can get beyond the colour now to the structure. I enjoyed being bowled over, but this seems more cerebral. Tricky business!

thanks my friend, and I know just what you mean! Bridget Riley (LOVE her art!) described color and form as ‘fighting’ each other – hence so much of her earlier work being B&W.

These are fabulous and I hope you continue your b/w explorations. When released from colour decisions one is free to travel through other dimensions and other challenges…
