Red
Bright Red grabs our attention. It’s used for warnings and it signals danger in nature.
Red lights warn drivers to STOP. Advertisers and retailers use it to draw our eyes to the big signs that read SALE.
Of all the colors we explore in the color wheel, one quality of red is unique: we have a different name for the lighter shades of red. Pink.

Show ‘n’ Tell
For TWELVTY this year I’m making a series of small mixed media pieces for each color. They range in size from postcard size (ish) down to really-weeny-small.
At the end of the project I’ll assemble them into some bigger multicolored somethings. For now I’m focussed on one color at a time, and playing with ideas. Every month I’ll share some of my process with you here in this blog.
Here is how my month of red took shape.
These are some of my favourite bits I worked on during the month of Red. Some feel like finished pieces, and some might get combined together when I return to them at the end of the year.
For now I’m setting these aside in readiness (no pun intended 😉 ) to move on to the next color: Orange-Red.
Would you like to play?
TWELVTY is a project anyone can join, at any time. It can be as big or as small as you like. It’s yours to make your own. Get your free TWELVTY Guide here
