“We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.”
~ George Bernard Shaw
don’t stop 😉
I’m planning to put together a video showing the evolution of these pages.
From their kinda ugly beginnings based on indecision – paint – no, pen – no this colour – no, blobs not spirals, no -wait, ….
through the messy phase (phase!!)
The bits that look more complicated than they really are (maybe)
Over and over in layers
We’ll be able to see the bits that get obliterated along the way & the bits that keep shining through
doubtless we’ll be joined by some of the recurring creatures -like these cut out birds who keep flying back in…
I’m intrigued to watch the process from the outside too – let’s hope for a nice bright day at the weekend and I’ll see what I can conjure up!!
Have a wonderful weekend everylovelyone 😀
I fell down another hole in time but it’s All OK Now.
I jumped. I was down there from some time, lurking
(it happens from time to time. Do you do this too?)
I’ve learned to TRUST I’ll fumble my way out eventually.
I follow my instincts and they lead me back to where I left off.
It’s a case of just ALLOWing. Letting go.
(Which reminds me – I’ve been reading this.)
There’s a lot about perspective…
Seeing the same thing from a different angle, a different approach.
What matters most…
Since I started this project back in January,
every week has entailed some sort of variation on the same theme:
There’s been doodles and scribble, lists and lyrics,
Notes to me-in-the-future, that’s to say,
to me-in-the-now from a-previous-me-in-the-past
There’s been a whole lot of mess and color.
(In that sense, no different from any other of my years, I guess)
This is the first time I’ve been disciplined to do the
same/similar thing consistently every week, for
39 consecutive weeks at this point, and still going strong
I’m just behind on showing you, so there will be a
flurry of catching up over the next short little while.
So this was that week then, the next week then will
follow in a blink of a thing. Hold onto your hats.
Yesterday I was telling you how Zak Smith’s art was the starting point in this little project of mine. At the same show I got to see the work of another favorite artist IRL, Dominc McGill.
Again there’s a lot of mono with splashes of color, intensified contrast. I love the mishmash of text in art, increasingly it’s something I use in my own work. It was around this time the Tate Modern was showing Mira Schendel.
Much of Schendel’s work was displayed hanging so you could walk round, through and between the pieces, be involved, enveloped, almost engulfed.
So I’m aborbing this work, there’s an osmosis going on. I’m gathering ideas and doodling them together.
Elements are coming together to form something new, something else.
I really don’t know where I’m going with this, but I’m riding the wave.
Destination is way down the list. Would probably be a distraction right now. Fuck destination.
As is my way (whenever I can) I moved on from here to screen printing. I’ll show you where that went next time.
